"Sons and Lovers" portrays a mining village in Nottinghamshire in the England of forty years later. The first part can be considered a social-realistic novel about a miner's family, the Morrels, and the changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution. The second part (Chapter 7 to 15) is the more modernist exploration of the unconscious mind and the passionate desires of the individual hero in search of his destiny, which prepares the nineteenth century novel, the reading public is large. Life is seen and judged from the same point of view by novelists and readers alike. The narrator is still OMNISCIENT and the writer expresses the dominant moral view of his time.
